vile

from Latin vilis, vilis, vile "cheap, common, mean, worthless"

vile adjective
  • morally despicable or abhorrent
  • physically repulsive; foul
  • of little worth or account; common, mean
  • tending to degrade
  • disgustingly or utterly bad; obnoxious, contemptible

“Suppose an intrinsically crafted flacon, adorned with meticulously cut gems, holding the promise of a divine elixir. The exterior is imbued with marvel while its merchant colorfully proclaims its life-affirming benefits. But, in lifting the frail lid, and inhaling the initial whiff of pleasantness, the vial spreads its true odor, and it is vile. It smells nothing like the advertised sweetness, but reeks of concession and sadness and fear.”
