"to wonder about; wonder over; wonder at; regard wonderingly; admire"
be- + wonder
from Old English wundrian "be astonished, admire; make wonderful, magnify"
In conventional usage, the verb bewonder has been declared obsolete in 1628. However, the 1913 Webster still has its listing, albeit marked as obsolete.
The word survives in Dutch bewonderen ("to admire"), German bewundern ("to admire"), and Swedish beundra ("to admire").
